The Silent Love
As the bus came to a halt, the curious Karthik sitting in the last row, looked outside seeing the new passengers boarding the bus. A pretty lady caught his attention. She was being dropped by her boyfriend who planted a sweet kiss on her forehead as the parting gesture. The lady looked absolutely mesmerising in her Indian attire with her red dupatta stealing the entire show. Her kohl-black hair flowed over her shoulders. Her curvilinear waist was as eye-catching as the saffron tint to her complexion. Her brown expressive eyes resembled that of light roasted almonds. The fragrances of daisies and roses only made it all the more difficult for Karthik not to turn his head.
Karthik had never seen a girl as beautiful and as feminine. She took a seat right in front of the row where he sat.
However the tranquility of her beauty was soon broken by a bunch of 6-7 rowdy boys who began displaying a rather indecent behaviour towards the girl. The behaviour was marked by cheers, laughs and explicit comments in hindi. Their behaviour had started growing unpleasant, unacceptable and from Karthik's perspective rather unforgivible. Karthik although did understand the practicality of the situation understanding fully well how near-to-impossible it would be to fight these ruthless boys.
Instead he came up with a better solution. As he gazed around the bus, he found one seat empty ,three rows ahead of the place where she was seated. He walked up to the man occupying the other one seat and requested him to kindly exchange their seats after explaining the entire embarrassing situation being faced by the girl. The kind gentleman walked up to the girl asking her to move to the seat next to Karthik where she would feel safe from these tantrums. With prayer on her lips not knowing whether to trust this new help completely, she still chose to take the risk.
Karthik offered her the window seat and himself took the seat next to her. His shoulders broadened with pride. He felt like a hero at that moment. He felt dutiful to protect the girl as his very own. He took it for granted that the girl was his responsibility for the next two hours. He had buckled up all the courage needed to fight anything that would now cause discomfort to her. In his minds she was no more 'the girl' instead she had become 'My Girl'.
Feeling safe at the new seat, the girl silently thanked the heavens for the new escape She stole a quick glance at her rescuer, her hero. Her eyes brimming with sparkle. As the winds blew her dupatta, the naughty one took its chance to touch this new found hero. Her lips broadened too wide unable to hide the admiration they had started developing for him. But the most traitorous of all, her cheeks, that blushed with full gleam displaying in full view the silent love that the girl had developed in some corner of her heart for 'Her Hero'.
And so the two hours passed. No exchange of words, no exchange of glimpses yet the two hearts connected as one of the 'UNSPOKEN LOVE'. It was finally the time for her to leave. As the bus came to an halt, the two exchanged their first and last look. With a smile saying something close to thank-you she got down the bus. Karthik was left with his feeling of satisfaction, courage, pride and something very close to love.
Love is not always about commitment. I definitely do not believe in the theory that we fall in love just once in entire lifetime. Instead we fall in love daily as we are humans and loving is our super power. There are sure different forms of expressing love.
Her boyfriend had just seen her off, soon after which she fell in love with her new hero, the person who came like an angel in her two hour journey when he needed him the most. He sure will stay in her minds and her heart forever reminding her of the silver lining in the world darkened with polluted minds.
Karthik too fell in love with her although he never yearned for her. His love made him duty bound to protect her. He had no demands from his love. Keeping her safe was his form of loving her.
This is love. Purity is its badge. It is ver simple to fall in yet very complicated to understand.
