All that's going wrong in U.P.
It's been quiet a while and India still can't stop chattering about the election of the saffron-robed head of the Gorakhnath Temple, Yogi Adityanath, as Chief Minister of India's biggest state. And why should people stop talking about it when he is giving ample controversial issues to the nation; one of which that has severely curbed the basic freedom of young couples and youth of U.P. Yes it's about this anti romeo squad. A squad that has been formed in all the police stations that will pick up "romeos" (a supposedly subtle term devised by U.P. Government for men harrasing, eve teasing women) who are loitering around such places like colleges and coffee shops. And this move is supposed to serve two big motives- firstly, prevent eve teasing and harassment of girls and secondly reclaim public spaces for women. Kudos to the motive behind this move but implementation of the move??. Well that's the controversy U.P. is fighting currently.
So Mr. Adityanath I really appreciate your motive behind this but Sir sorry to remind you that you forgot to do your homework on this Squad. Firstly my problem with this move is that did you clearly give your definition of "Romeos" to them? Because I guess they have seriously misinterpreted "YOUR" version of "Romeos" and taken it completely in a literal sense. Inspired by Shakespeare's story of Romeo they actually believe they are supposed to arrest any boy with a girl in autorickshaw, or a boy meeting girl just to give her some notes or a brother accompanying his sister to tution. Well the last one being the height of problems being faced due to this squad.
So I guess your squad men now believe that a boy and girl sitting in a park, having routine conversation is unacceptable as it might lead to the boy taking undue advantage of the girl leading to a substantial crime. So why not arrest the boy before he does that crime even if there are 99% chances that he is complete safe or wait may be he is her brother. So tomorrow Sir i should'nt be surprised if one of the policeman fines me just for driving car because he might believe that just because I am driving there are chances that I might over speed and run over people sleeping on streets. So basically me driving will be called a crime even before or should I say may be never I actually commit any crime. Applauds Sir for taking the phrase "Prevention is better that cure" to an absolutely ridiculous level and for the first time making me believe how absurdly stupid idea this phrase could be.
I really think you need to draw a clear distinction between harrasment and consensus. After 18 evey girl is an adult and clearly knows for herself who is right and safe for her. Just because we all are betrayed at some point of time by our close ones, we do not lose our hopes on humanity. So instead of creating trouble for youth and the young couple it would be really appreciated if police spends more of their time in looking out for serious crimes happening out there. A young boy and a girl consensually hanging out in a public place doesn’t constitute a crime. So kindly bless your squad with the correct judging ability before conferring them with any kind of power so in your motive of preventing women's harassment you do not end up harassing young couple.
There are certainly bigger issues that you need to deal with first. Reform of electricity provision; fixing housing or education; attracting investment; upgrading urban infrastructure, healthcare are just few of them. Right now your cabinet members seem to be in charge of all the unimportant stuff.
Work to prove BJP as a party of development and not of radical Hindutva.
