IN THE AGE OF MALADIES

We read about pollution, corruption, discrimination
We read about injustice, cruelty and animal slaughter
We talk about vices, endangerment and inflation
And then we express fear, concern but slowly its all lost amidst laughter.

While maladies without fear continue to rule us
As we stay ignorant or too busy or too scared
To challenge them or slap them tight on their butts
And thus unrestricted these maladies flare.

Are we too ignorant too coward or too shy
Or are we too busy too frightened or too naive.
What stops us from bringing about an amendment
Why do we humbly accept them as a part of living only bringing about adjustments.

Adjust to the pollution by wearing masks
Adjust to corruption by paying off the bribe even before they ask
Adjust to the inflation by lowering your own demands
And become blind to injustice till one fine day it will invade your own farm.

Because birds keep singing their evergreen song
Even if there is no greenery around
Because mangoes continue to ripe every season
Even when left uncared for in this age of high treason.

Some great souls yes voice their concern
Do hunger strikes , protest and for co-operation they yearn
Yet their noble steps often fail
And these maladies continue to thrive without dismay.

Why so despite their sincere efforts
Is it because some critics scorn their brave endeavour
Those that have sided with maladies and whom the darkness blinds
While we take a back seat ,watch events unfold as we stay blinded by the light.

These vices have now become a part of our tradition
As they will only grow and become more monstrous with each coming generation.
